Coron anchors the Calamian Islands in northern Palawan, spread across the eastern side of Busuanga and the dramatic karst spires of nearby Coron Island. It is best known for two very different draws. Beneath the surface lies one of the world's great wreck-diving grounds: a fleet of Japanese ships sunk during the Second World War now rests on the seabed, encrusted with coral and circled by fish, within recreational diving depths. Above the water, Coron Island hides some of the Philippines' most photographed scenery - Kayangan Lake, reached by a short climb over a ridge to a mirror-clear basin walled by cliffs, and the Twin Lagoon, where you slip between two bodies of water where warm and cool currents meet. Coron Town, the small commercial hub on Busuanga, is where boats depart, dive shops cluster and travellers eat, sleep and plan their days. Island-hopping tours link reefs, sandbars and marine parks across the bay. Reached by air into the local airport with links to Manila and Cebu, or by ferry from El Nido, Coron rewards divers, snorkellers and anyone drawn to limestone lakes and quiet lagoons.

When is the best time to visit Coron?
The dry season, roughly late November through May, generally offers the calmest seas and best conditions for boat tours and diving, with clearer underwater visibility. The wetter part of the year can bring rougher water and the chance of tours being adjusted or cancelled, though it also means fewer visitors. Since boat trips depend on daily sea conditions, keep some flexibility in your plans and confirm each day's outing locally.
How do I get to Coron?
Most travellers fly into the local airport on Busuanga, which has air links to Manila and Cebu, then transfer by road to Coron Town. Another popular option is the passenger boat between El Nido and Coron, which lets you combine both northern Palawan destinations in one trip. Ferries also connect the region from other ports. Do I need to be a certified diver to enjoy Coron?
