The classic season runs from late April to early October. July and August are hottest, busiest and priciest, ideal if you want full-swing island life and guaranteed beach weather. Many travellers prefer late May to June or September, when the sea is warm, days are long and villages are calmer. Spring and autumn suit the mainland, archaeology and hiking, while winter is very quiet on the islands with reduced ferries and many seasonal rentals closed.
