Kos sits in the southeastern Aegean, part of the Dodecanese chain a short hop from the Turkish coast. It is one of the greener, gentler islands here: broad and largely level, which is why so many visitors explore it by bicycle rather than car. Kos Town wraps a working harbour in palm-lined avenues, with a medieval castle at the entrance and Roman ruins scattered between the cafes. Just outside town lies the Asklepion, the terraced sanctuary of healing linked to Hippocrates, who was born on the island. Along the north coast, Tigaki offers shallow warm water and a salt lake behind the dunes, while the southwest ends at Kefalos, where cliffs and a long bay mark the quieter, wilder side of Kos. Between the two you find fishing hamlets, hilltop villages like Zia known for sunsets, and thermal springs that bubble into the sea. The island is easy to reach by direct flights in season and by ferry from Rhodes, Piraeus and neighbouring islands. It rewards a slow pace: a morning ride along the coast, an afternoon swim, and a long evening meal by the water.

How do I get to Kos?
Kos has its own international airport with seasonal direct flights from many European cities, plus year-round domestic connections via Athens. You can also arrive by ferry from Piraeus, Rhodes and other Dodecanese and Aegean islands. Once on the island, buses, taxis, rental cars and bicycles all make getting around easy.
