Zakynthos lies in the Ionian Sea off the western Peloponnese, an island of dramatic white cliffs on one side and gentle green plains on the other. Its most photographed spot is Navagio, the Shipwreck cove on the northwest coast, a strip of pale sand hemmed by sheer walls and reachable only by boat. Along the same rugged shore, the Blue Caves near Cape Skinari catch and scatter light until the water turns luminous, best seen from a small boat in the morning. To the south, the wide shallow sweep of Laganas Bay is protected as part of Greece's first national marine park and is a key nesting ground for loggerhead sea turtles, which draws careful, low-impact wildlife watching. Zakynthos Town, rebuilt in graceful arcades after past earthquakes, curves along the eastern harbour beneath a Venetian castle on Bochali hill. Inland you find olive groves, hill villages and quiet lighthouses at Keri. The island is reached by seasonal flights and by ferry from Kyllini on the mainland. It balances headline sights with slower corners for those who want both.

How do I get to Zakynthos?
Zakynthos has an international airport just outside the main town, with seasonal direct flights from across Europe and domestic links via Athens.
