Head south and the island turns to surf: laid-back Canggu with its cafe culture, stylish Seminyak, and the dramatic limestone cliffs of the Bukit peninsula around Uluwatu, where waves peel below clifftop bars. Families gravitate to the calmer, shallower beaches of Sanur and Nusa Dua, while Jimbaran is famous for grilled seafood eaten on the sand at sunset. Temples are everywhere, from sea-perched Tanah Lot to clifftop Uluwatu with its sunset Kecak dance. Getting around means scooters, private drivers or ride-hailing apps rather than trains, so many visitors base themselves in one or two areas.

When is the best time to visit Bali?
Bali's dry season runs roughly from April to October, with warmer, sunnier days and lower humidity, making it the most popular window for beaches and outdoor days. The wet season, around November to March, brings heavier tropical downpours, though these often pass quickly. The shoulder months on either side of peak summer tend to be quieter and can offer better value on rentals.
How do I get around Bali?
Bali has no train network and no comprehensive public transport, so most visitors rely on rented scooters, private cars with a driver, or ride-hailing apps like Grab and Gojek. Scooters are cheap and flexible for short hops but require confidence in busy traffic; hiring a driver for the day is a comfortable, popular choice for temple runs and longer trips, especially for families.
Which part of Bali should I stay in?
It depends on your trip. Ubud suits culture, jungle and wellness; Canggu and Seminyak suit surf, cafes and nightlife; the Bukit peninsula around Uluwatu offers clifftop drama; and Sanur, Nusa Dua and Jimbaran are calmer and family-friendly.
