Stretching down the sunny edge of Spain's Alicante province, the Costa Blanca earns its name from long ribbons of pale sand and light-washed cliffs facing a warm, swimmable Mediterranean. It is a coast of contrasts. Benidorm rises in a wall of towers above two broad bays and keeps the party going late, while just up the shore Altea keeps its whitewashed old town, blue-domed church and cobbled lanes almost defiantly quiet. Between them sit the family-friendly bays of Calpe, watched over by the great Peñón de Ifach rock, and the coves and clear water around Jávea and the Montgó headland. To the south, Torrevieja spreads beside its famous pink and green salt lakes, and gentle, shallow beaches make the whole stretch a natural fit for families. Inland, the land climbs quickly into almond groves, palm forests and rugged sierras, so a morning on the sand and an afternoon in a hill village are easily combined.

When is the best time to visit the Costa Blanca?
Late spring and early autumn (roughly May–June and September–October) give warm sea temperatures, long days and thinner crowds than high summer. July and August are hottest and busiest, ideal for beach holidays but book well ahead. The coast also enjoys mild winters, making it a popular off-season base.
Which town should I choose as a base?
It depends on your style. Benidorm suits nightlife, entertainment and easy amenities; Altea and Jávea lean quieter and more scenic; Calpe balances beaches with a relaxed feel; and Torrevieja and the southern beaches are gentle and family-friendly. Alicante itself works well if you want a city with a beach attached.
How do I get to the Costa Blanca?
Most visitors fly into Alicante–Elche airport, which sits central to the coast and connects to many European cities. Trains and the regional tram (TRAM) link Alicante with several coastal towns, and hiring a car makes it easier to explore the coves, hill villages and beaches beyond the main resorts.
Is the Costa Blanca good for families?
Very much so. Many of its beaches shelve gently into calm, shallow water, promenades are pram-friendly, and there are water parks, boat trips and easy day excursions along the coast. Larger holiday rentals with pools and kitchens are widely available, which suits families wanting space and flexibility.
