Rates checked in September 2026. Under its single-fee structure, Airbnb charges most hosts 15.5%; Airbnb says other hosts typically pay between 14% and 16%. Exceptions depend on country and account type. Booking.com sets the commission rate in each accommodation agreement, and visibility programmes may increase it. This worked example uses a possible range of 15% to 25%. If Booking.com facilitates payment, the applicable payment terms and transaction cost are contract-specific. Our 6.9% cost contribution is included in the displayed total and contributes towards Stripe payment fees and refunds. Nothing is added at checkout and nothing is deducted from the owner. Fee models can change, so please check each platform’s current terms. Sources: Airbnb Help Center and Booking.com General Delivery Terms.

Popular places to stay in India

India is less a single destination than a continent's worth of them, and part of the pleasure is deciding which India you want first. Down in Goa, palm-fringed sands and a relaxed beach-shack culture draw sun-seekers along the west coast. Neighbouring Kerala trades the beach for a network of tranquil backwaters, where converted houseboats drift past villages, rice paddies and coconut groves. In the northwest, Rajasthan delivers the postcard India of forts and palaces, with the pink-hued streets of Jaipur and the lake city of Udaipur. Far to the north, the mountain state of Himachal Pradesh offers cool hill towns, trekking and Tibetan-influenced culture in the foothills of the Himalayas. And Mumbai, the country's restless commercial capital, ties in colonial-era architecture, street food and a nonstop urban energy. Broadly, the cooler and drier months from around November to March are the most comfortable for much of the country, while the summer monsoon brings rain and humidity to many regions and the high mountains have their own short season. Distances are large, so most travellers pick a region or two.

Holiday homes in India: FAQ

Book vacation apartments and holiday homes safely with BookNoFees ↗
When is the best time to visit India?

For most of the country the cooler, drier months from around November to March are the most comfortable for travel, which is why they are the busiest. The summer months can be very hot before the monsoon arrives, and the monsoon itself brings rain and humidity to many regions. The Himalayan areas run to a different calendar, with a shorter warm-season window for trekking. Because India is so large, it is worth checking the season for the specific region you are visiting.

How should I plan a route across such a large country?

Most visitors choose one or two regions rather than trying to see everything, because distances are long. Popular pairings include Rajasthan's cities with Delhi and Agra, Goa's beaches with Kerala's backwaters in the south, or the Himalayan hill towns of Himachal Pradesh on their own. India has an extensive rail network alongside domestic flights, so connecting regions is possible, but allowing generous travel time makes for a calmer trip.

What are the Kerala backwaters and why go?

The Kerala backwaters are a network of interconnected lagoons, lakes and canals running parallel to the Arabian Sea coast in southern India. The classic experience is a slow boat or houseboat journey through green, watery landscapes of villages, paddy fields and palms. It is one of the country's most relaxed experiences and a strong contrast to the pace of India's big cities.

Is Rajasthan mainly about the cities?

The cities are the headline draw, with Jaipur known for its pink-toned old town and hilltop forts and Udaipur famed for its lakes and palaces. But Rajasthan is also a desert state, so many travellers add experiences such as visiting historic forts, exploring markets and taking desert excursions. It pairs naturally with Delhi and Agra, home of the Taj Mahal, on a northern loop.

How does BookNoFees keep my India stay cheaper?

BookNoFees deducts no commission from the amount set by the host. The displayed total includes a 6.9% guest fee on the host price, covering payment processing, refund handling and payment risks. Nothing is added at checkout.

How do I book and communicate with a host on BookNoFees?

You can message the host before booking. For a booking request, Stripe first places a card hold for the full amount; the host has 48 hours to accept, and only then is the amount captured. Instant Book is charged immediately after Stripe confirms payment. Do not transfer the booking amount directly to the host. The displayed total already includes the 6.9% guest fee on the host price, covering payment processing, refund handling and payment risks.
