Krabi is the province on Thailand's Andaman coast where jungle-topped limestone karsts rise straight out of turquoise water, both on land and as scattered offshore islands. It is calmer and less built-up than neighbouring Phuket, yet it is the natural launch pad for some of the region's most famous escapes. Most visitors base themselves along the palm-fringed sweep of Ao Nang, the main beach town, then hop by longtail boat to cliff-ringed Railay and its backpacker sibling Tonsai, both cut off from the road network and reachable only by sea.
