Konoba Boba

Konoba Boba brings together the cooking of chef and owner Vjeko Bašić, his family and a garden setting in the heart of Murter. Boba is a family nickname, and the restaurant treats that name as a link to its island home. The surrounding sea, the Kornati islands and the people supplying the kitchen shape its approach to food. Seafood forms the center of a menu that follows the seasons and the different places where ingredients are harvested. Traditional island cooking provides the foundation, while contemporary ideas influence how those ingredients are prepared and presented. This is a restaurant to approach through its current selection rather than a single dish expected to remain permanently on the menu. The garden is an important part of the experience. Rosemary, basil, oregano, mint and marjoram grow alongside vegetables and fruit trees, including fig, olive, citrus and mulberry. A stone courtyard wall encloses the outdoor dining space, which accommodates eighty guests, while the interior has fifty seats. Part of the kitchen is open to view, allowing diners to watch some of the preparation. A wine selection completes the meal, and the setting accommodates both smaller tables and gatherings of friends. The contrast between the enclosed garden and the visible kitchen gives guests two different connections to the food: the plants around the table and the work behind each plate.
