Konoba da Rocco

Konoba da Rocco is a family tavern in Krnica, where stone walls, natural building materials and an interior furnished in an older style frame a kitchen devoted to Istrian recipes. Chef and owner Manuel Vlačić cooks at the central hearth, while Loreta welcomes guests. The family presents the restaurant as a place for unhurried meals together, with cooking inherited from earlier generations. Fish and meat are prepared on a traditional gradele grill in front of diners, using the house's own olive oil. Local suppliers provide ingredients, and the seafood comes from wild fish caught by local fishermen. Handmade pasta is another foundation of the kitchen: fuži, pljukanci, gnocchi and ravioli are prepared on the premises and paired with sauces made from boškarin beef, game or rooster. The menu also reaches into the surrounding countryside through lamb from local family farms. It can be cooked in a pan with herbs, including wild sage, or beneath a traditional baking bell. Dry aged ribeye and Florentine style steaks offer another direction for guests interested in meat. The house's featured dishes include seafood risotto, cuttlefish with polenta and osso buco with Milanese risotto, followed by desserts such as lava cake. Wines come from Istrian cellars, and the tavern also serves istarska supa, a traditional preparation of red wine, olive oil, spices and toasted bread in an earthenware jug. Children have a separate menu with smaller portions. Tables can be reserved directly by telephone.
