The Vineleaf Tavern stands on Ampelonon in Pissouri. The street name is worth translating: ampelonon is Greek for of the vineyards, and it is the road that runs down from the village towards Pissouri Bay through the vines. The valley here is farming country — table grapes, almonds, carob — and the road is named after what grows beside it.
The house keeps no website, so nothing is set down here about its cooking. What can be said is the shape of its day: it opens at one in the afternoon and closes at ten at night, every day of the week, with no closing day and no break in between. That single unbroken afternoon-and-evening service is the ordinary pattern of a Cypriot village taverna, and it makes the place useful at the hours when a kitchen working two sittings would be shut — four in the afternoon, for instance, coming up from the beach.
It calls itself a tavern rather than a restaurant, which in Cyprus points at meze and grilled food rather than at a written menu, though we can point at no source for what is actually served. The telephone is the way to ask.
Pissouri lies on the south-west coast between Limassol and Paphos.
