GutsAlm Harlachberg – Gaststube Heinrich

GutsAlm Harlachberg is a small estate in a secluded clearing above Bodenmais, with a farmhouse dining room, a winter garden and a beer garden looking towards the surrounding mountains. The restaurant is called Heinrich, and its character follows the older inns of the Bavarian Forest: substantial tables, a continuous corner bench and warm lighting. Outside, handmade wooden furniture and an old granite fountain keep the courtyard simple. The setting belongs to a wider group of buildings that includes a restored farm and a seventeenth-century chapel, so a meal here also offers a glimpse of the estate itself. The kitchen works with regional and seasonal ingredients and recipes drawn from local cookbooks and oral tradition. Herbs come from its own garden, and some of the meat comes from the Frisch butcher in Teisnach. Alongside the traditional cooking, vegetarian dishes are available and vegan food can be prepared on request. Bread has a particular place here: loaves are baked by hand in a historic stone oven, and visitors can join a baking session with advance registration. A nearby smoking oven is used for trout. The grounds also host weddings, family occasions, seminars and cultural events. Guests arriving by car use the estate's parking area and continue on foot for about a hundred metres, helping preserve the quiet around the buildings. Dogs are welcome both in the restaurant and in the beer garden, provided they remain on a leash.
